 Maual   Dillon Electronic Hearing Protection Manual illon's HP1 electronic hearing protector amplifies weak sounds, while at the same time blocking out loud, harmful noise. During loud noises, the HP1 maintains a comfortable level of sound transmission ? HP1 hearing protectors are designed to never completely shut-off. The HP1 transmits a high-quality, wide frequency range sound - not the hollow, ?tinny? sound common with other electronic hearing protectors. Separate volume controls allow user to adjust volume independently for each ear. HP1 Hearing Protectors provide TRUE stereophonic sound. The Dillon HP1 provides a Noise Reduction Rating of 21. Noise attenuation measurements were performed according to the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) Specifications, ANSI S3.19-1974.

The external battery compartment allows easy access to batteries as well as isolating the batteries and associated connections from the harsh, humid conditions that can exist inside the ear cup. Two AAA batteries in each ear cup provide 300 hours of service. Extra-deep, replaceable ear pads provide added protection and comfort by increasing the internal depth of the hearing protector

1. Battery Installation PHOTO An external battery compartment is located on each earcup. To install the batteries, using a flathead screwdriver remove the cover as indicated in Fig 1. The battery compartment houses two AAA batteries. Check for correct polarity alignment as indicated in the battery compartment. Once you have installed the batteries, replace the cover.

2. Earpad Removal and Installation PHOTO Place two fingers under the inside lip of the earpad and pull, as shown in Fig 2A. To install the earpad, begin by aligning the earpad with the earcup as illustrated in Fig 2B. Now, press the earpad firmly against the cup so that the sealing ring of the earpad locks into the detent inside the earcup with a positive snap.

3. How to Replace the Microphone Cover PHOTO Each earcup comes with its own microphone and microphone cover. The microphone covers are made of acoustic foam and are replaceable. The microphone covers are held on by four small plastic hooks. To remove, gently pull a portion of the foam cover away from the center and then up and away from the hearing protector as shown in Fig 3. To replace, simply set the foam back over the plastic framework.

4. How to Adjust your HP1 Hearing Protector to Fit PHOTO Each earcup can be adjusted by sliding it up or down on the stainless steel wire form as shown in Fig 4. The hearing protectors can be adjusted while wearing them or before putting them on. The hearing protectors are to be worn with the headband going directly over the top of the head. To adjust the fit of the hearing protector while wearing them, simply slide the individual earcup up or down as necessary until a comfortable fit ? without leaks ? is achieved. See Fig 4. 5. How to Fold/Collapse the HP1 Hearing Protector PHOTO Refer to Fig 5. Begin by sliding both earcups upwards on the stainless steel wire forms so that they are at their shortest length. With the earcups together, push them upwards into the headband. Important User Information about the HP1 Electronic Hearing Protector

* Your HP1 hearing protector should be kept clean and sanitized. To clean, use mild soap and water. Do not use excessive amounts of soap and water and do not submerge the HP1 in water.
* Certain chemicals will attack the plastic in the HP1. Acetone, for example, will attack the HP1.
* Do not expose the HP1 in excess of 130 F.
* Remove the batteries of the HP1 if left unused for extended periods of time.
* If the sound begins to distort ? replace the batteries.
* Insure the HP1 is turned off before changing the batteries. Insure that the batteries are installed properly before turning the HP1 on.

Attenuation Data

Attenuation Data for the HP1 tested in strict accordance with American Standard Institute (ANSI) Specification S3. 19-1974. Although hearing protectors can be recommended for protection against the harmful effects of impulse noise, the Noise Reduction Rating (NRR) is based on the attenuation of continuous noise and may not be an accurate indicator of the protection attainable against impulse noise such as gunfire.

Improper fit of this device will reduce its effectiveness in attenuation noise. Consult instructions for proper fit.

The level of noise entering a person?s ear when hearing protector is worn as directed is closely approximated by the difference between the A-weighted environmental noise level and the NRR.

Example:
1. The environmental noise level as measured at the ear is 92 dBA.
2. The NRR is 20 decibels (dB)
3. The level of noise entering the ear is approximately equal to 72 dB(A).

Caution: For noise environments dominated ny frequencies below 500 Hz the C-weighted environmental noise level should be used.
